F1: Alonso has bone to pick with 'useless' F1 Power Rankings

Alonso has bone to pick with "useless" F1's Power Rankings

The F1 Power Rankings are driver ratings published by F1's panel of experts and they review a driver's performance across a race weekend, after which they submit their results and voilá, the drivers are then given a position according to their marks. However, more often than not, these rankings -and the judgement behind them- are brought into question, and Fernando Alonso has since given his thoughts on said rankings, and he is not a fan, to say the least.

'F1 Power Rankings are useless'

In conversation with media present in Abu Dhabi, including GPblog, Alonso was asked about his opinion regarding the controversial driver rankings. "I see sometimes [the rankings] in the media, you know, but this is useless," said the Aston Martin F1 driver, disregarding the initiative entirely.

"I don't know which position I am. I only see the top ten and I'm not there, which I'm 9th in the Drivers' Championship with 7th or 8th fastest car," continued Alonso, bringing the criteria behind the marks that are given to the drivers to the fore.

'Max and Lando on equal points?'

"And I think Lando [Norris] and Max [Verstappen] are equal in points," added the Spaniard. "So when you see that, you don't pay any more attention," concluded Alonso.

By the way, Lando Norris beat Max Verstappen in the rankings, despite falling to the Dutchman in the Drivers' Championship, whilst having the better machinery for the most part of the season, and Verstappen struggling for two-thirds of the season in a temperamental RB20.
