Aston Martin appoints second reserve driver alongside Vandoorne for 2025
- Ludo van Denderen
Aston Martin has extended its contract with Felipe Drugovich. The Brazilian will remain the British team's test and reserve driver through 2025. He will alternate his duties with Stoffel Vandoorne. Last week, Aston Martin already confirmed to GPblog that the Belgian will also stay on.
According to Aston Martin, Drugovich, who has worked for the British team since 2022, is a key part of the team and has been instrumental in its success. Meanwhile, he's participated in five FP1s plus did three post-F1 season tests. In early 2023, the Brazilian looked set to make his Grand Prix debut after Lance Stroll was injured. However, the Canadian was deemed fit just in time for the race in Bahrain.
"I'm obviously really pleased to be staying with Aston Martin Aramco for a third full season as Test & Reserve Driver," Drugovich commented. "There's a lot of momentum at this team, and I'm excited to see what we can achieve together. The incredible new facilities at the AMRTC, including the brand-new simulator, demonstrate the ambition here, and I'm committed to being a part of Aston Martin Aramco's long-term success."
Krack praises Drugovich
Mike Krack, the former team boss and now Chief Trackside Officer, complemented the Brazilian talent: "Felipe has been a vital member of our team since joining, and we are very pleased to continue working with him into 2025 – he is a real asset. His contributions behind the scenes, particularly in the simulator and during test sessions, have been invaluable, and he does not put a foot wrong behind the wheel."
"Felipe's dedication and feedback have played a crucial role in our progress, and we are confident he will continue to make a significant impact as part of our team," concluded the Luxembourger.
