Why Ferrari won't tell when Hamilton will be in action for the first time

Why Ferrari is deliberately keeping the date of Hamilton's debut a secret

14 January at 17:00

Lewis Hamilton's debut at Ferrari is keeping minds busy. Ferrari itself, however, is keeping quiet about Hamilton's first metres in a Ferrari, and for good reason.

Rumours about the possible first day Hamilton will step into a Ferrari have been circulating for some time, and not surprisingly. Lewis Hamilton is the most famous Formula 1 driver worldwide, who will drive for the most famous Formula 1 team in the world Ferrari in 2025. A mix that creates a lot of attention around the world.

With how big Ferrari is, it is not surprising that various dates are leaking out. There are plenty of people working in Maranello who are informed of conversations with Hamilton, sessions in the simulator and a test drive on the Fiorano circuit. That information is leaking out is therefore not surprising.

Ferrari itself, however, is keeping its mouth tightly shut, and it does so for a reason. If it were to announce the day when Hamilton would be in action in a Ferrari for the first time, it would create a huge influx of people. People who are not allowed onto the track, and thus cause traffic disruption.

When will Hamilton be in action for Ferrari for the first time?

Ferrari's Fiorano circuit is in the middle of the small town, with public roads on both sides. Ferrari cannot close the roads for a first test for Hamilton, so the days he will be in action are not communicated by the team. There is no escaping the fact that several dates will still leak out.

According to Italian Autoracer.it Hamilton would be in action during a three-day test at Fiorano from 21 to 23 January. This would follow his first days at Ferrari's Maranello factory. This is in line with earlier reports from Motorsport.com, which also talked about a test for Hamilton during the same period.

During F1 75, it is certain that Hamilton will appear in his Ferrari suit. That is when Ferrari's new livery will be presented, as will that of all other teams. The drivers will also be in London on 18 February for the event organised by F1 itself. A day later, Hamilton will also be in action at Fiorano, according to several media, but that too has not been confirmed by Ferrari. The team will hold a presentation of the new car on that day.
