Colton Herta is commonly associated with Formula 1. The IndyCar driver seems to be a fan favourite when it comes to Cadillac entering Formula 1 in 2026. However, he does not currently have a super license, which he will need.

From 2026, two additional seats will become available in Formula 1. Cadillac will then enter the competition, and from that moment on, becoming the 11th team on the grid. Colton Herta is often linked with a seat for the coming season. Mario Andretti, advisor of Cadillac, has named Herta as a possible driver for the team.

But does Herta actually want to race in Formula 1? “If it happens, it happens, great, and then I'll have a decision to make if I'm still wanted. If it doesn't happen, then poor me, I'm stuck racing IndyCars. I'll be alright either way.” If Herta enters F1 at the beginning of 2026, he would be a relatively old rookie as her would be 25 years old.

“I don't really have a concern with it at all. I’ve kind of been dragged around in this talk for, it feels like, half a decade now. I've had the carrot in front of me for a while." Herta continued, "I’m kind of tired of that being the case, and I just want to drive at this point and focus on IndyCar this year and focus on winning a championship, and if something arises out of that, I'd have to think about it."

On the topic of actually making the move, he mentioned those closest to him. “It's still not a 'for sure' thing. All my friends and family are here in the US, and I don't know anybody where I'm [would be] going, so it's a big decision to make - if I have to make that decision.”
