The World Endurance Championship (WEC) continues to grow in popularity. Major manufacturers, such as Ferrari, Peugeot, BMW, Alpine and Aston Martin, have already entered the premier hypercar class, or will soon do so. McLaren too is reportedly planning to enter endurance racing with its so-called prototypes in the near future.

It is no secret that McLaren CEO Zak Brown has been exploring the possibilities of entering WEC, as well as its American counterpart IMSA, with its own hypercar for some time. According to Racer, the moment is almost here for Brown's plans to become a reality.

Italian company Dallara, responsible for the chassis of the Haas F1 team, among others, is said to be willing to build the hypercar for McLaren. The big question is just which manufacturer will supply the power unit for the McLaren hypercar. It is said to be currently looking at which party McLaren would like to partner with for it.

Brown already active in IMSA and Le Mans series

Incidentally, Brown is already active in IMSA and European Le Mans in a personal capacity. In fact, the American is a co-owner of United Autosports, a team with LMP2 cars. This team cannot compete in the WEC, although there is an exception for the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
