Switch imminent? 'It won't be long before Verstappen comes this way'
- Ludo van Denderen
Max Verstappen has never made a secret of not wanting to be active in Formula 1 until late in life. Not only does he find F1 far too intense with now 24 Grand Prix weekends, the four-time world champion would also like to compete in other racing classes. In that case, Verstappen always mentions the World Endurance Championship first.
Dutch driver Robin Frijns has been driving in the WEC for some time and knows the charm of the class better than anyone else. As a BMW driver, the Limburger aims high next season. "At the end of the season we are aiming for the podium," Frijns told De Limburger.
"I'm really looking forward to that so much. We have a strong line-up in terms of drivers and the car is getting better and better. Although the competition is murderous, I really think we can structurally compete for podiums."
Verstappen in WEC soon?
When Frijns talks about WEC, he can only draw one conclusion: "WEC is so cool. Just watch out: it won't be long before Max Verstappen comes this way too. And he won't be the last to make the switch," is the Dutch driver's firm conviction.
Next weekend, Frijns will be able to take a seat in his BMW when the Daytona 24 Hours takes place. This is not a race that counts in the WEC championship, but belongs to the championship of the American counterpart IMSA.
