Buxton not out of Formula 1 altogether: 'Hope to return'
- Savannah Lenz
It was recently announced that Will Buxton would be making the switch to Indycar. Buxton has been a well-known face around the paddock as he has worked with F1TV. While he will now focus on IndyCar, he has not ruled out returning to Formula 1. In fact, he would like to show up a few times over the season.
The US broadcaster, FOX, holds the broadcasting right for the IndyCar series, which is where Buxton will be joining. Since 2018, Buxton has been the official present of the Formula 1 channel, as well as occasionally showing up on the Netflix series Drive to Survive. Now, the British Journalist will make his way over the pond to America.
Buxton on a possible F1 return
"“When the season is happening, my sole focus will be IndyCar because I want to ensure that I give the series, and I give its drivers and its teams, absolutely 100% of me. I want the fans to know that my commitment, my focus is solely on IndyCar. But that doesn't mean I'm going to stop working Formula 1, and it doesn't mean that I'm going to stop being in touch with the teams and the drivers and wanting to know what's happening," Buxton explained to The Race.
Buxton hopes that he can make brief appearances throughout the Formula 1 season and even step back into his role at F1TV.
“The folks over at F1 and F1TV have been incredibly understanding and incredibly supportive of my decision to go, and they've said that the door remains open. I'm really hopeful that for the second half of the season, I can come back to a few races and hopefully pop back up on F1TV a little bit.”
