Buxton reveals clear answer from McLaren CEO Brown: 'F***ing do it!'
In 2025, Will Buxton will go overseas to commentate for FOX, switching from F1 to IndyCar. The journalist who previously worked for F1TV and also had a role in Drive to Survive, still hopes to return to F1 one day. He also revealed that Zak Brown played an immportant role in his switch as well.
First, the Briton from Portsmouth sought information about the American series. "There were two people that I spoke to about it. One was Leigh Diffey, who obviously was the outgoing IndyCar commentator, and somebody that I've worked with for many years through the NBC days. Then other one was Zak Brown," the commentator told The Race.
Buxton reveals Zak Brown's response
"I said to Zak: ‘I think IndyCar can be incredible, but do you believe that the growth potential is there? And, from everything you've heard from Fox, are they as serious as they seem about it?’ Zak replied with a text message that was three words, and it just said: ‘F**king do it!’ That was literally all I needed to know," Buxton revealed.
Of course, McLaren are also present in the American series, therefore, the CEO knows the ins and outs there as well. While Buxton will focus on the IndyCar series, that does not mean he is no longer interested in Formula One either, hoping to make a few appearances on Formula 1's official channel in the second part of the upcoming 2025 season.
