Would Verstappen leave Red Bull? 'They're worse than where he is now'
- Ludo van Denderen
An interesting and exciting season awaits both Max Verstappen and Red Bull in 2025. The big question is whether the Austrian team can be competitive against the fierce competition of McLaren and Ferrari, both teams which are expected to be strong in 2025. Will Verstappen want to leave Red Bull if he no longer feels he can fight for championships at Red Bull?
Should Verstappen decide to look elsewhere, Mercedes and Aston Martin are mentioned as possible destinations. But Guenther Steiner, the former Haas F1 Team Principal, in an exclusive interview with GPblog, states he does not see Verstappen going anywhere at all after the next season as he believes that there is no good seat available for the World Champion.
Is there room for Verstappen at the top teams?
Looking at Verstappen's options, Steiner sees few opporunities at McLaren and Ferrari. "Obviously a contract, you can always tear it up. I think McLaren will not change their drivers. I think McLaren is not going to spend the money they need to have Max. I'm pretty sure Ferrari will not spend, to have another expense like Lewis [Hamilton]."
Steiner went on to argue, "And then it's only Mercedes left. I think the biggest chance is Mercedes. If Kimi [Antonelli] doesn't do what they expect from him, there could be an opportunity. But otherwise, I think the opportunities, they are dwindling. There are opportunities. But they're worse than where he is now," the Italian believes.
