McLaren's Zak Brown braced for epic 2025: 'Even tighter field than in 2024'
The 2024 season saw four different teams and seven different drivers take home multiple wins, as Red Bull Racing's edge on its competitors dissapeared at the beginning of last year's campaign, yielding the closest racing to be seen under the current regulations. McLaren's CEO, Zak Brown, now braces himself for what he claims will be "an epic season."
Last year McLaren were able to pip Ferrari by the ever so narrow difference of 14 points at the season finale in Abu Dhabi to claim their first Constructors' championship in 26 years. However, the Woking based team's CEO expects the 2025 Formula 1 season to be even closer. Speaking at the Autosport Business Exchange conference, the American stated: "I think the field is going to be even tighter than last season."

He continued: "I see the top four teams being just as tight as they were at the end of the year," adding that while McLaren experienced a major turn around in performance since they introduced a substantial upgrade package in the Miami Grand Prix, other teams may experience the same performance surge in the upcoming season. "When you see the turnaround we had, there's no reason why other teams can't have that type of turnaround."
Indeed, Ferrari mimicked the Woking based team's turn around following a Singapore upgrade which saw them win two Grand Prix in the United States and later on in Mexico, in the home stretch of the season, with Mercedes also taking a 1-2 in Las Vegas, and Red Bull Racing edging its competitors first in Brazil and later on in Qatar, while McLaren was the first to reach the chequered flag in one of the last five races, in the season finale in Abu Dhabi.
"I think we're going to start for an epic season... I think we're going to have an unbelievable three, four-way driver championship. And four teams fighting for the constructors' (championship). I think that's possible," concluded Brown.
