For months Toto Wolff worked towards the moment, now it is a fact. Lewis Hamilton, the driver who enjoyed great success in Formula 1 at Mercedes, is no longer part of the German team, but of Ferrari instead So when the moment comes that the bird has really flown the coop, it turns out to be something to swallow.

While Wolff is preparing for the new season with George Russell and Andrea Kimi Antonelli, Lewis Hamilton is doing so with Ferrari. This is going through trial and error, as was evident last Wednesday. During a TPC test, Lewis Hamilton crashed his SF-23, leaving Charles Leclerc out of action in the afternoon hours.

It was the first setback for Hamilton, who until then had made a glorious entrance at Ferrari. For days, the seven-time Formula 1 world champion dominated the news; with his first day at the Italian team, his first test and, of course, the first photo as a Ferrari driver.

Wolff saw Hamilton 'with a new friend'

Wolff too had seen that first photo with Lewis Hamilton, the Austrian told us. "It's a little bit like you divorce amicably, and it's all good, and then you see your partner for the first time with a new friend!", the Mercedes team boss told Sky Sports.

Still, Wolff says: "But I'm really happy for him, and I told him that those pictures were iconic that he made - it was so well curated and no surprise with Lewis."
