Verstappen's suggestion taken into account? Red Bull are 'open-minded'
Max Verstappen could not understand why Red Bull did not have a special rear wing created for high-speed tracks, as the Dutchman voiced his thoughts following the Italian GP. Despite Verstappen being critical, technical director Pierre Wache explained why Red Bull do not know at the moment whether they will create such wings for the 2025 season.
Verstappen believed that Red Bull threw away victories in Monza and then at Las Vegas, where Red Bull did not have a specific rear wing. As another close season is expected in '25 where every point could make the differentce, Red Bull are not yet sure about having one this year, Pierre Wache said.
According to the team's technical director, the use of a dedicated wing also relates to decision on the technical side of the RB21. "It has to do with the budget cap, but also with what you found,," Wache began to Autosport. "It is not because you have a different shape than the other teams that it is worse."
Special rear wing does not guarantee success
Wache pointed out that given the RB20's balance issues, having a specific rear wing would have turned their car into a rocketship around Monza. "We will look at it, what to do next season and if we find something better," the Frenchman continued.
Wache underlined he did not dismiss what the four-time world champion at the time, but also added: "It doesn't necessarily mean that we will find a better solution," the technical director said.
The Frenchman therefore looks at the upcoming season in terms of this question with an open mind. "We have to look at what is the best solution for our car. If you find a special shape for Monza and Vegas but it is one tenth slower, then why would you take it?"
