Horner saw McLaren make costly mistakes: 'They missed a lot'
- Savannah Lenz
Despite winning the constructors' championship with McLarens during the 2024 Formula 1 season, the driver's title was not on the cards for Lando Norris. Red Bull Racing CEO and team principal Christian Horner thinks that this is due to the Briton's own mistakes. He also thinks that Norris has learned from them heading into 2025.
One could argue that McLaren had the fastest car during last year's F1 season. The car was both quick and consistent, even at circuits with different layouts and in difficult weather conditions. While Mclaren won their first constructors' title in 26 years, Norris could not pick up his first drivers' title.
Horner: 'McLaren has learned from its own mistakes'
With a strategy that was different from every other team on the grid, Horner believes McLaren made some costly mistakes. "I think, when you reflect on it, they missed a lot of opportunities on the driver’s side [last] year." He continued, “They had two competitive drivers, which was strong for them in the Constructors’."
Horner is also confident that McLaren has learned from last year and will operate differently throughout the 2025 season. He concluded, “But I’m sure Lando will perhaps look back and think three or four wins from this campaign, with the car that he had at many races, is probably less than they could have."
