Alpine reigned supreme over the midfield after enduring a gruelling first half of the season, which the French team were able to turn around following the return to F1 of Luca de Meo's excutive advisor for the category, Flavio Briatore, the addition of Oliver Oakes and the team's technical star comeback after 11 years away, David Sanchez. Now Pierre Gasly sets the bar even higher for the Enstone-based team.

In 2024, Aston Martin were once again the best of the rest, following the big four: McLaren, Ferrari, Red Bull Racing and Mercedes. Now Alpine need to aim for taking their rival's place in F1's hierarchy, at least according to Pierre Gasly. Asked about his goals for the 2025 season at the Autosport awards the Frenchman was brave: "I'll go with a top five in the constructors', because that's what I want and I think that's definitely achievable."

Such lofty goals for a tempered Gasly

Although last year's chaotic race in Brazil resulted in a good haul of points for the French team with a Esteban Ocon lead double podium, the A524 started regularly outperforming their rivals Haas, VCARB, Williams and Aston Martin, so the young Frenchman's ambitions are certainly not misplaced. However, he of course wants more, but does his best to keep his hopes tempered due to the field's current competitive level.

"Obviously deep inside me I'd like more than that, but I've got to be objective and know that it's going to be a tight field, a competitive field, and I don't expect massive change compared to last year," he concluded.
