Scot Elkins is stepping down as race director in Formula E, it has just been officially announced. He has decided to step down as race director after the Miami E-Prix due to personal circumstances. He will be succeeded by Marek Hanaczewski, who has already been the substitute race director since 2021.

Elkins has become a regular face in the paddock over the past decade, and is known for his calm approach towards the drivers. "After ten years in Formula E, the time has come for me to retire as Race Director," Elkins revealed in the press release. "With the recent loss of my father this past December, I have new responsibilities that require my time and attention at home. While I had hoped to complete Season 11 and retire at its conclusion, my plans have now been accelerated and my focus remains on my family. I will continue working in motorsport, primarily on projects based in the USA." He expressed his gratitude for his time in the Formula E paddock and for the friendships he has built. "Although I am very sad to leave, I am confident in the staff that will remain."

His successor Hanaczewski reacts to his colleague's departure with mixed feelings: "Stepping into the role of Race Director is an exciting new chapter in my motorsport career, and the continuation of a journey that began 13 years ago. Since 2017, I have had the privilege to work alongside Scot, who has been not only a great leader but also a mentor, teacher and friend. I am incredibly grateful for the knowledge, experience and trust he has shared with me over the years. His contribution to Formula E is undeniable, and I deeply appreciate the time we have spent working together."

Change of guard

Elkin will still be in the paddock during the upcoming race weekends in Saudi Arabia (14 and 15 February) and Miami (12 April), but will only take on a supporting role. He will use that period to get Hanaczewski up to speed so that he can take over as best he can after Miami. After the Miami E-Prix, Benoit Dupont will become the new deputy race director.
