Formula 1 Alex Albon on British drivers speed in motorsports

Will British drivers take over the F1 Grid? 'In a very good position'

Alex Albon has praised British motorsport for its ability to create incredible motorsport and Formula 1 talent. The Thai driver, born in Britain, is one of many who have enjoyed success at an elite level. The Williams driver revealed what makes Britain such a good breeding ground for talent in an interview with Formule1.nl.

"It’s quite special, yes,” Albon said when asked about the British stronghold in Formula 1. In 2025, British drivers—including British-born Alex Albon—will make up a quarter of the Formula 1 grid in 2025, with Oliver Bearman, George Russell, Lewis Hamilton, and Lando Norris all on the roster.

Albon: British motorsport is in a 'Very good position'

“British motorsport is in a very good position at the moment. There are fast drivers and excellent conditions for talents to develop. The ‘grassroots’ are incredibly strong,” Albon explained.

Formula 1 has always been influenced strongly by Britain. After all, almost all the teams are based in the UK in one way or another. Many personnel in Formula 1 are British, but the quantity of competition stands out to Albon as a clear reason why British motorsport is so healthy.

“As a driver, you’re active in a world full of competition from the age of eight in Great Britain,” he stated. “You’re racing against many talents who have come over from mainland Europe. Or those who settle in England from the United States or Asia. It maintains a consistently high level. Whether it makes British drivers better than others, I wouldn’t dare to say. But it results in more British talents who can go for a chance in motorsport.” Albon concluded.
