Alpine has a long and rich history of names, owners and investors. Previous names of the F1 team include Toleman, Benneton, Lotus Renault GP (different from Team Lotus), and Renault F1, while previous owners include Toleman, the Benetton Group and now Groupe Renault. But who are Alpine's investors?
The majority shareholder of the Alpine F1 team has also switched hands over the years, from Genii Capital holding the majority to Renault repurchasing it to now having investors and shareholders deal with the minority of the shares.
One of the minority shareholders is an investment group featuring Otro Capital, RedBird Capital Partners and Maximum Effort Investments. With an investment of €200 million, the group currently holds a 24% stake in the company after purchasing it in June 2023. Many investors have invested in Alpine, precisely through this investment group, such as Actors Ryan Reynolds, Michael B. Jordan, and football star Rob McElhenney.
Star-studded Investors
While those three joined in right at the beginning, it wasn’t until October of 2023 that more stars joined in. Three-time Superbowl winners with the Kansas City Chiefs and American Football stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce were a part of the second wave of celebrity investors. Alpine’s investors are very sports heavy, as four-time champion across various golfing leagues Rory McIlroy and World Cup winner Juan Mata also invested.
After the wave of celebrities invested, Alpine was confirmed to be worth £900 million. The investors have helped not only with the financial valuation of the Formula 1 team but also with the promotional side. Due to Reynolds being an investor, Alpine ran a unique Deadpool and Wolverine livery around the time of the release. Another significant promotional aspect falls under the fast-growing fanbase in the United States. The United States of America now hosts three races; the Miami Grand Prix, the United States Grand Prix, and the Las Vegas Grand Prix.
Alpine ended the 2024 season off P6 in the constructors’ championship. Soon, they will move from a works team to a Mercedes customer team in 2026 as their Majority holder, Renault, has decided to no longer produce their own engines. During the 2025 season, the Alpine team will consist of Pierre Gasly and Jack Doohan.
