Over the nail-biting 2024 season, one of the most debated aspects was the so-called 'flexiwings', that were used by McLaren and Mercedes. A change in terms of how flexible the wings could be will change ahead of the Spanish GP, however, McLaren team principal Andrea Stella is not worried at all.
'No headaches' for Stella
The 'flexiwing' rule change will happen once the F1 grid arrives to the Spanish Grand Prix on the calendar. Currently, technical regulations state that front wings cannot bend more than 15 millimetres. Aftewards, that will be a maximum of 10 millimetres. Talking to GPblog anonymously, teams have different opinions on the matter, we have previously published.
Talking to Sky Sports ahead of the 2025 season, team principal Andrea Stella is therefore not worried about the rule changes: "No headache at all. We don't have to make many adjustments at all for the start of the season. There will be a small adjustment required from race nine."
The McLaren team boss continued: "I know it's become a big talking point, but in terms of what makes us busy and what gives us headaches, actually there are completely different topics which have much more to do with gaining those tenths of a second you refer to, that I might have made look simple."
"I don't want to look disrespectful to all the men and women at McLaren who work so hard and competently to actually make a faster car off what was already a very fast car in 2024," the Italian concluded.
