Verstappen earns big in F1, but also finishes in the top 20 worldwide
Max Verstappen was not only the champion in F1 in 2024, but he was also the biggest earner. This is according to the rankings of the US-based Sportico, which listed the highest-earning sportsmen worldwide.

Verstappen is estimated to have earned around $76 million (€72 million) in 2024. This puts the Dutchman in eighteenth place in the ranking, one place behind Rory McIlroy and ahead of three-time Super Bowl champion Patrick Mahomes. Previously, in 2023, Verstappen finished 22nd on the Forbes list of the world's best-paid athletes.
Lewis Hamilton is the only other racing driver in the top 100. He is four places behind Verstappen in 22nd, with an estimated income of $60 million.
The top hundred highest-paid sportsmen is led by far by Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese footballer earned a whopping $260 million in 2024. He is followed by basketballer Stephen Curry with $153.8 million and boxer Tyson Fury with $147 million. The top 5 is rounded off by Lionel Messi and LeBron James.
Income includes not only salary, but also bonuses, prize money and sponsorship income. The 100 highest-paid athletes in the world earned a total of about six billion euros in 2024.
