Doohan not worried about Colapinto: 'He's a reserve'

Jack Doohan is not worried about Franco Colapinto

Even before a single metre has been driven in the Formula One 2025 season, Jack Doohan's position would already be under pressure. Alpine's recent signing, Franco Colapinto, would be the man to take the place of the Australian rookie should he not perform at the level the French team expects him to. Doohan, however, is not worried about the rumours, as he said in London on Tuesday prior to the F1 75 Live event.

For Doohan, Colapinto's position is clear: "I've been told he's a reserve driver," the Alpine driver reveals to GPblog and others. Yet the rookie also realises that he is now in Formula 1, a place where hardly anyone is can always be certain of their seat.

"When I was a go-karter in Formula 3, Formula 2, I would do anything to be in Formula 1 and sacrifice everything. I don't think necessarily someone inside the team, outside the team, anyone that's performing well, you're always going to have pressure on your shoulders because you're in such a cutthroat sport."

And so Doohan seems to be aware that Colapinto is waiting in the wings, but the Australian is simply going to give it his best shot. "Whatever pressure there may be, I look forward to enjoying that, embracing it, and just enjoying my Formula 1 season."

Doohan done with Franco questions

After two more questions about Colapinto and his position in the team, Alpine's team representative has had enough. "I think we've covered the Franco topics. Let's move on. I think we've had two. We'll move on from there."
