A stoic Alonso raises the standards at Aston Martin: "Aim for perfection"

Aston Martin is currently making monumental efforts with hopes of challenging the top teams in F1. Although moderately successful in 2023 with a strong first third of the season, the team has been languishing further and futher back since then. However, with several updates to their factory infraestructure and a revamped technical and operative roster, the team looks to the future with optimism ahead of what is to be a "very tight" season.

Ahead of the F1 75 Live event, Fernando Alonso was asked about the oppotunities the upcoming F1 season would bring for the British racing green team, but the Spaniard, as it is usual now, does not look that far into the future. "Well, I think, first of all, we need to see the cars on track in Bahrain. Probably the first couple of races, I think there are many different types of circuits at the beginning of the year. I think we will have a better idea after three or four races," said Alonso to GPBlog, among other media present.

But, the team's goal, however challenging it may be, is clear. "The aim for us is to improve what we did last year. It's been two consecutive seasons in P5 in the Constructors' Championship. It's going to be a challenge." The reason? "It's going to be very tight. Small details will make a huge difference in terms of points and results," adds the Spaniard echoing the word of fellow competitors and F1 experts alike.

Alonso and Aston strive for perfection

Nevertheless, Alonso remains as stoic as always, and reveals the team's resolve as they look to finally start making their way to being a solid contender at the top of the pinnacle of motosport. "We aim for perfection every weekend. If that's good enough to win the points, it will be good. If that's good enough to be fighting higher up, it will be even better. If we are not in that position, we will do our best to be in that position later in the season."

"Ready after a few months [out] of the car. I know the team has been working flat out to prepare this year’s challenger. Together with the new factory and the new wind tunnel, everything that is going on at the factory at the moment and in Aston Martin. This gives us a lot of optimism for the future," concludes Alonso.
