Before the 2024 season started, Lewis Hamilton’s shocking decision to join Ferrari cast the spotlight on the Italian team. Now, with Hamilton's first season with Ferrari set to start in less than two weeks, Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur speaks about the beginning of the season.

On the topic of the beginning of the season, Vasseur said, “I think everybody and every single team is excited at the beginning of the season. It's the DNA of our sport, and we are all feeling that we can be world champions at the beginning. When we are speaking about the drivers or the teams, we are all positive, but I think it's, again, normal.”

He continued, “In your case, that in your situation, it went very well this winter that for sure we had a huge wave of marketing and so on, but the team stayed focused all the winter, and it's two separate organisations.”

2026 Development

One of the questions on every team's mind is when to stop developing the 2025 car. “It will be a challenge, and it will be the question of the year that we will have a first picture about performance and championship quite soon with five races in six weeks," the Frenchman explained in Sakhir.

He concluded, “I think this will also steer a little bit the decision that if you are, one second ahead or one second back, I think it's much easier to take a decision. But this is completely unrealistic. We will be into the pack, and the pack will be tight, and it will be a tough choice for sure.”

Ferrari ended the 2024 Formula 1 constructors championship in second place, only 14 points behind McLaren. However, both the Ferrari drivers, Charles Leclerc, and Hamilton, have spoken highly of the SF-25 and are ready for the season to start.
