Following his forced departure from Sky Sports, Damon Hill is currently looking for work. The former world champion is keen to stay in Formula 1. In what role? It could be anything, he tells The Telegraph: From analyst to even working for an F1 team.

Last week, Hill - not for the first time - strongly criticised Red Bull Racing, Max Verstappen and Christian Horner. With such statements fresh in their minds, it seems unlikely that the Austrian team would call Hill and ask him to take up a role within the team. But in general, if an F1 team were to ring Hill up, the former champion would certainly not say 'no'.

Working for an F1 team is something the Brit definitely aspires to. "I would love that," Hill says. "I’m a natural competitor and I’d love to be involved again [in the sport] in trying to help someone or something be competitive. That’s what I understand really."

Hill is looking for work that suits him

For now, it is all hypothetical. Instead of joining an F1 team, it is more likely that he will be employed somewhere as an analyst. During the Australian Grand Prix, for example, Hill will be in action for the local broadcaster. And after that? "I don’t know. I’ve got some offers."

Whatever happens, Hill only wants to take on something that suits him. "I don’t really want to traipse around the world just standing around in the paddock. It’s got to be something that uses your bonce, you know? I can’t just stand there and wait for a question to be asked. It doesn’t do it for me."

That was precisely the role at Sky, though. That is why Hill thinks it is good that the two sides parted company. "I always felt like I had a kind of ill-fitting suit on when I was with Sky. I didn’t feel I got to a place where I could express everything I wanted to," he reflects.
