Alonso shares Aston Martin plans: 'We have Newey, we have Cowell'

The 2025 season is the last season under the current regulations. With that comes the very important question: When should you stop developing the 2025 car? At Aston Martin, they have their own opinion on what to do. Fernando Alonso explained what that was to GPBlog and others.
Alonso said, "We want to do the best 2025 possible, but knowing that the 2026 is a big reset in terms of regulations and performance and if you are fighting for the World Championship in 2025, it's a different story. You cannot give up too much, there is no guarantee that you will fight in ‘26. So you need to take what you can take. If you are not fighting for the World Championship in 2025, it doesn't change too much to be in one position up and down. If that costs something for 2026, that will be painful."

After having a good 2023 season but failing to make the podium in 2024, Alonso is hoping for something more in the next two seasons, especially with their new additions. He said, "We have the right management. We have the vision of Lawrence. We have Andy. We have Adrian. We have the best people to make whatever decision, and we will agree and we will be happy with that."
The Spaniard was also asked if he had a chance at becoming world champion this upcoming Formula 1 season, but Alonso did not have to think long about that: "I don't think so," he said. Alonso has two world championships under his belt from the 2005 and 2006 seasons.
