Winner of the Australian Grand Prix? Steiner takes his pick
Oscar Piastri has made substantial progress each year he's spent as an F1 driver. But is it enough to challenge McLaren teammate, Lando Norris, for the championship in 2025? Former Haas F1 team principal, Guenther Steiner, certainly thinks so.
What does the Italian think of the McLaren racer's chances to be the first-ever Australian to win their home Grand Prix? "[They're] Very good. Very good. I think he's got a good chance to win here," says Steiner on Australian TV Show, The Project.
Does Steiner think Piastri can take the fight to Norris?
"He showed that he's good because he can compete with Lando Norris, who is one of the best," added Steiner. But, can Piastri vy for a world championship in 2025? Steiner is then pragmatic. "So I think obviously the stars need to align. You need to have a good car. You need to have a good day. But I think he has got the first one after the testing last week, the McLaren. I think it's the best car."
With two drivers per team, then the win will surely be contested by both papaya drivers, who are on the same level, according to the Italian at least. "So I think it will be a battle between the two teammates [for the win]. Because I think that those two, they're at the same level as drivers, Lando and Oscar, because Oscar now is in his third year. He learned a lot. He won races last year. So, he's ready," concludes Steiner.
