Formula 3 champion Leonardo Fornaroli may have news soon. The Italian expects to join the training ranks of a Formula 1 team soon, he revealed in response to a question from GPblog.

Fornaroli became the F3 champion in 2024, taking the title despite not winning a single race throughout the campaign. As a rookie driver of team champion Invicta Racing, the Italian will have the chance to fight for wins and perhaps even the title in F2 this season. With so much confidence from last season's best team on the F2 grid, it is remarkable that Fornaroli is not under contract to an F1 team.

That is likely to change soon. After GPblog asked the 20-year-old last season at Monza, shortly after clinching the title, if a contract would soon be signed with an F1 team, this site did so again now. "It's very similar as [it was in] Monza, right now. But then now something is moving and my manager is following everything. Hopefully, I will join a team soon."

Fornaroli afraid of British mentality

Fornaroli would not say which team or teams are in the running to recruit him. He did, however, talk about the upcoming season, his first at Invicta after spending years racing for Italian Trident.

"To be honest, I was a bit scared about English mentality, because I'm not really used to it. But, then I got along very well with everyone in the team, with the mechanics, with the engineers. And, the energy you feel in the team is very nice, because you feel that they [feel], like all of us, we are going up together. We are pushing towards our goal, which is for everyone to win," the Italian youngster concluded.
