A ban for Verstappen in 2025? 'He's going to race exactly the same''
Max Verstappen has to watch his step for now. The Red Bull Racing driver has eight penalty points on his licence, and twelve will see the Dutchman face a one-race ban. To avoid that the four-time world champion could have a more careful approach as to how he goes racing, something Martin Brundle does not see happening.
Verstappen was heavily criticised on several occasions last season for his aggressive style of racing. After being penalised by the stewards on several occasions during the home stretch of the 2024 season, the four-time world champion is currently at eight penalty points, out of which, the first ones won't expire until 1 July.
Brundle knows why Verstappen is a four-time champion
In a season where teams are expected to be separated by the smallest of margins, racing hard will be necessary to get the best possible results, with the danger of a race ban looming fro Verstappen, the Red Bull Racing driver may choose to tread carefully. However, Brundle expects Verstappen to race as "he's hardwired" to do.
"No, he'll race exactly the same," the analyst says to Sky Sports. " That's how he's hardwired. That's why he's a four-time world champion. We saw it against Lewis [Hamilton in 2021], we've seen it more recently against Lando [Norris in 2024]."
"The more tense the championship gets, the more aggressive Max drives. And he's so clever, he's skillful enough to place the car, he knows the regulations inside out, and he's overly aggressive sometimes but makes it work for him," Brundle concluded.
