Vasseur faces unknown ahead of Australia: 'Results difficult to read'
F1 News

This Sunday, Lewis Hamilton will make his official racing debut for Ferrari. The British driver has had to wait more than a year for this moment since announcing his move from Mercedes, but this weekend, it is finally happening. Team boss Frederic Vasseur revealed what Hamilton and his teammate, Charles Leclerc, have been doing over the winter to prepare, and he also addressed Ferrari's possible performance in Melbourne.
Vasseur on Hamilton and Leclerc preparations
The Ferrari team boss said, "Everyone, including the drivers has worked hard all winter in the factory in Maranello. Charles has also pushed harder than ever in the gym, and Lewis has made a great effort to assimilate with the team as quickly as possible. I believe we have everything in place to do well."
Vasseur continued, "As always, we will concentrate on ourselves this week, aware that this is just the start of a very long season. A week ago, we were given a wonderful welcome by a huge crowd of our tifosi in Milan and now, in Melbourne, we will be aiming to give all our fans further reason to be proud of us."
What can Ferrari do in Melbourne?
By the end of last season, Ferrari was very close to the top of the constructors' championship. Expectations around the team are therefore very high this year. During the test days, the Italian team seemed to still be behind McLaren, though the rest of the field seemed tight together behind.
Vasseur also spoke about how he predicts his team will be able to perform in Melbourne, "The Albert Park street circuit is not particularly representative of what the rest of the year has in store, but we did well there last year. Naturally, there are plenty of unknowns and we are keen to find out what the hierarchy will be, especially as the results of the Bahrain test were very difficult to read."
