Piastri prepared to fight Norris for world title: 'Confident in my ability'
Oscar Piastri has told GPblog and other media that he is feeling very confident about the upcoming F1 season. He expressed his excitement for the new season and his readiness to battle against Lando Norris, Max Verstappen, and others. The Australian, who is preparing for his home race, recently signed a new contract with McLaren and made it clear that he does not see himself as the team’s second driver.
Speaking about his chances for this season, Piastri was clear: "I'm very confident in what I can do myself. And you know, I think we're going into the season starting from zero for both of us. And we're both obviously going to be trying to fight for a world championship, hopefully. So, yeah, I'm pretty confident in what I can do and aware that there are things that I need to do better from last season. But I'm confident that we've done a lot of hard work to try and improve that and go out and have a good year," Piastri explained.

After winning two Grands Prix in 2024, the 23-year-old is hoping to build on this in 2025 with his own improvements. "I think for the season, you know, obviously, I'm confident in what I can do as a driver. And I think last year, I think I proved to myself in a decent portion of the year what I'm capable of and really took confidence from, especially the wins and some of the better races from last year. I think now just trying to do that every race weekend is kind of the goal.
"I think with Lando, it's obvious that he's incredibly talented and it's never going to be easy going up against him. But, Yeah, I'm confident in my own ability to try and prevail this year."
The McLaren driver is about to begin his third season in the pinnacle of motorsport, marking his third year with the team. You can follow all the action from this weekend's Australian Grand Prix right here on GPblog.
