Verstappen says it doesn't matter if his baby ever becomes driver

Will baby Verstappen also become a driver? For Max, they're free to choose

If all goes well, 'mini Verstappen-Piquet', Max and Kelly's first child, will be born in mid-April. With the genes of the Verstappens and Piquets (grandpa Nelson is a three-time F1 champion, ed.), the little one could just be a new top motorsport talent. But Max Verstappen will not push his expectant son or daughter to follow in his footsteps.

It is a common prejudice: Jos Verstappen would have pushed Max to go racing. Nonsense, because it was precisely Jos who was initially reluctant to let Max kart, who was able to make his first meters in a gokart only after plenty of insistence on his part. Now, Max claims he will not push his child to take up a career in motorsport.

Verstappen wants his child to be free to choose

"I want my child to choose for himself," he told GPblog and others in Melbourne. So racing, playing football, ballet or violin, Max Verstappen hopes his little one will do what he or she likes.

But, should they catch the thrill for speed and overtaking, the Dutchman will back them fully. If not, Verstappen won't be any less happy: "It doesn't matter. Of course, if he or she wants it, you always do your best as a parent to give them what they need or advise them. But I'm also very happy if they choose something else, to be honest," concluded the Dutchman.
