McLaren the favourite? Norris: 'Certainly not happy'

Charles Leclerc topped FP2 at Albert Park ahead of the Australian Grand Prix ahead of Oscar Piastri in P2 and Lando Norris in P3. After the session, Norris spoke to Sky Sports and his conclusion on his MCL39's performance was not the best.

So, how was the second practice session for Norris in the end? "So, so. It’s been a good start to the weekend, we’ve got a good baseline," said the Briton to Sky Sports. But in the end it proved to be not good enough to pip Leclerc and his SF-25. "But certainly not happy, like not confident with the car in terms of finding the best balance and being consistent enough, especially on low fuel."

McLaren are struggling on one lap pace

However, the race simulations proved to be McLaren's strong suit. "High fuel, I felt good. Just low fuel was still similar to Bahrain, too many inconsistencies, too many problems, so a bit of a struggle."

McLaren came to Australia as the favourites to win the first round of the 2025 season. However with two practice sessions already in the books it looks like they can expect fierce competition from the Scuderia, particularly from Leclerc, sin Lewis Hamilton is still acclimitising to the Ferrari car.
