Charles Leclerc is feeling optimistic after Friday’s sessions in Melbourne. While he acknowledges there’s still plenty to improve before qualifying and the race, he emphasises that things are looking promising for Ferrari at the first race of the season after topping the second free practice session.

Ferrari’s first Friday of the Formula 1 season was a positive one. Charles Leclerc secured P3 in the first free practice and topped the timesheets in the second session. Meanwhile, his new teammate, Lewis Hamilton, appeared to still be adjusting to his new team. The seven-time world champion finished P12 in FP1 before improving to P5 in FP2.

Leclerc is optimistic after the first Friday in 2025

"The feeling in the car was good and we had a solid first day on track," Leclerc stated after the second free practice session in Australia.

"There is still some margin for improvement in terms of the balance, which is the same for everyone across the paddock, given that these cars are still pretty new to all of us, and we have to push to understand their limits." The Monegasque does not find this really worrying, considering it is a problem that most teams actually suffer from.

Ferrari and McLaren are tipped to be the fastest cars on the 2025 Formula 1 grid in the opening part of the season. You can see GPblog's tech review here, analysing the aerodynamic performance of the top competitors on the grid.
