Vasseur expresses support for Cadillac: 'Can't be arrogant'
Fred Vasseur sees Cadillac' s arrival as a positive development for Formula 1, as long as the company gets its act together. Ferrari will work frequently with the new team as Cadillac's engine supplier. In any case, Vasseur is already delighted with the Americans' work ethic.
"I think we have to avoid being arrogant," Vasseur explained to the media in Melbourne. "The car manufacturing world is going through a tough direction. If you remember the journey of 2008, it was brilliant, and then in two or three days, everything switched completely."
Vasseur positive about Cadillac
"For me, having another OEM (original equipment manufacturer, ed.) onboard is good news. It's an American (manufacturer, ed.) one, which is another good news." However, with a caveat. "It's still a bit early to consider them as an OEM because they will join the championship as a car and engine manufacturer at the end of this regulation."
Regardless, Vasseur welcomes the Americans' entry. "I think it’s good news as long as the team is structured solidly and so on. I think that's the case today. We have a good relationship with them. They are doing a good job and they taking it seriously." Vasseur does stress, however, that it will be a big challenge for the General Motors backed team. "For sure, it's a challenge. As James said before, for teams already on the grid it’s not easy. It’s no easy to be competitive and to start from scratch is a huge challenge, but everything is possible."
