After being in a podium position throughout the entire Grand Prix, Oscar Piastri eventually had to settle for finishing ninth in Australia. As the rain began to fall once again, the driver lost control of his car. Afterwards, the driver was disappointed, but remained positive about McLaren's pace.

After the two McLaren drivers shot off the asphalt in the rain, Piastri was unable to get back towards the front of the field. His mistake cost him quite a few points: the teammate of race winner Lando Norris scored just two points with ninth place.

As rain arrived to Sector 3, it caught out the home favourite in the penultimate two corners, the driver first went wide, and then got stuck on the grass. "Pretty disappointing. It felt like for every lap, apart from one, I drove an incredibly strong race, just a shame to not have the result to go with it. I don't have anyone to blame but myself. I was a bit unfortunate to get stuck [in the grass] the way I did," he told Sky Sports.

Piastri: 'McLaren made the right choices'

While Piastri is disappointed in himself, there are plenty of positives to take from this weekend. "For me, the big positive is the other 56 laps of the race. It felt like I had strong pace in all conditions. That's what I will try to take away."

Overall he was satisfied with his team, who made the right choice to enter the pit lane. "Lando made the right decision and even with myself, given I was trying to reverse for about a minute, we still made the right decision. Just a shame to not have a better result."

He then concluded with saying that his incident is hurtful, no matter what result could have been on the table. "I think it would hurt if I had a bad car. But I think clearly there was much more on the table than P9 today, so it's just a shame to not have that result."
