- Savannah Lenz
Lewis Hamilton made his debut with McLaren at the 2007 Australian Grand Prix, 18 years later, he made his debut with Ferrari. Unfortunately for Hamilton, things did not go as well as they had during his first debut.
Hamilton was unable to capitalise on his first race with Ferrari. After mistakes were made during the race, Hamilton was only able to land himself in tenth place.
Hamilton on his Australian performance
When reflecting about his weekend and what he thought went wrong, Hamilton reflected “I think for me it was just confidence. Building confidence. From the moment I got in the car on Friday, I didn't have the confidence, particularly at all the high speed I was down a huge amount.”
Things did not change for the Briton over the weekend. He said, “I got to Saturday, I had confidence, I was coming back, building, building, building. And then we got to the race and again started from scratch and I didn't have any confidence, through pretty much most of the race.”
He mentioned, “I think in the settings as well the car was very tricky.”
If Hamilton had a chance to do something different, he said he would change “many many things.” He continued, “I think set up wise, I'd set the car up just a lot different and position many many things, I think set up wise, I'd set the car up just a lot different and position the car different in different parts of the race, different calls.”
