The Formula 1 season officially started after the conclusion of the first weekend, the Australian Grand Prix. It was a chaotic rain race from start to finish. Max Verstappen lost his world drivers' championship lead after 1,029 days after Lando Norris took home the first win of the season.  Formula 1 analyst Peter Windsor saw how close it all was and how Verstappen put a lot of pressure on McLaren.

Windsor reacts to thrilling end with Verstappen and Norris

Verstappen had been able to get himself within one second of Norris before they crossed the finish line. "It was very close. Max got within DRS range of Lando in the closing laps and was all over him on the last lap, but he could do nothing and crossed the line only eight-tenths of a second behind Lando, who finished second." Windsor began his analysis on his YouTube channel.

"Lando, of course, won the opening round of the World Championship, very deservedly so, from pole. It was an absolutely stunning drive, despite that one mistake when he ran on slicks in the wet. We can forgive him for that one. Otherwise, he really showed his skill, especially to Oscar Piastri," the analyst continued.

Windsor sees Verstappen repelling Russell's attack

Another driver who Windsor said also performed strongly was George Russell. The Mercedes driver finished third in the race and on the podium. "He tried to give Max a bit of a push at the final restart when they were all back on slicks again. He's on the hard tyre, Max is on the medium, but Max again starts to pull away. It was a little bit like the way Max pulled away initially from Oscar Piastri in the opening laps of the race."
