Piastri confident McLaren have "good pace" but wary about 'rapid Ferrari'
Oscar Piastri is confident that McLaren have "good pace" to take into wualifying and Sunday's race to challege for the top spot, but the Australain is also wary of the "rapid Ferrari's" around the Shanghai International Circuit.
Lewis Hamiton was able to back up his P1 in sprint qualifying by taking an impressive win the the sprint race on Saturday, with Piastri unable to really challenge the Brit, showing that the Scuderia are well and truly involved in the 2025 title battle.
However, Piastri was able to have a positive race, moving up from P3 to P2 by getting past Max Verstappen in the final new laps, showing that McLaren's long run pace is still to be desired by the top teams, showing far more pace than the Dutchman could handle in the Red Bull.
Piastri and McLaren have "good ideas" for the rest of the weekend
Speaking to Jacques Villeneuve in the post-race interviews, Piastri started by saying: "I think it was a really productive Sprint. Second is a good result and we learned a lot. The way I got the result is an encouraging thing. We didn't quite have enough pace for Lewis out front, but we have some good ideas for later and tomorrow.
"I think we have good pace in the car, but the Ferraris look pretty rapid," concluded the Australian, knowing that the impressive Hamilton will be the marker to beat in China for the rest of the weekend.
