Piastri elated after Sunday's win: 'My strongest weekend in F1'
Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri have always stated that McLaren's F1 cars are very tricky to drive, a sentiment echoed by former drivers of the Woking-based team, Carlos Sainz and Daniel Ricciardo. The Australian believes that the way he and his team managed to 'tackle on the tricky' MCL39 was the key to his faultless win in the Chinese Grand Prix last Sunday.
"Very satisfying," Piastri defines his win on the Shanghai International Circuit in the FIA post-race press conference in China.
"Obviously, I think it's always a pretty good day when you cross the line first. But I think for me this has been the most satisfying, not just race, but weekend for myself," added the Australian, who seemed to have the edge on teammate, Norris, throughout the sprint weekend, qualifying and finishing ahead the Briton both in the sprint sessions, as well as the habitual format ones as well, wrapping up the weekend with a pole on Staruday and a lights-to-flag win on Sunday.
"I think the two wins I had previously were very different, and I think this one's been the most complete," said Piastri, who'd never before achieved a pole position and thus had a chance to lead the field into Turn 1 as the lights went out. A lead he wouldn't give up save for a few laps during the first round of pitstops.
Piastri and McLaren did a good job taking on 'tricky' MCL39
So, not only Norris now, but also Piastri describes the MCL39 as 'tricky', which he and his McLaren team did a good job of taking said aspect on. "So I'm very, very happy with the whole effort of the whole team this weekend. I think we started with a car that was quick, but pretty tricky at times, and I think we did a good job of trying to tackle that. And to come away with this result is a perfect end to the weekend," concluded Piastri.
