On the day Red Bull Racing officially announced the immediate appointment of Yuki Tsunoda as Max Verstappen's teammate, there is also a crisis meeting at the Austrian team. The topic of discussion in Milton Keynes is how to improve the RB21 so that it can compete seriously at the front of the grid again. But, a notable absence from the important meeting is advisor Helmut Marko.
GPblog knows that Max Verstappen, Christian Horner and the technical team, among others, are at the factory this Thursday. But Marko, the external advisor and one of the key figures at Red Bull, is not there. Given the importance of the meeting, though, it would have made sense for Marko to be there. It is unknown why the Austrian is not there. No doubt that will come out at some point.
Marko spoke about the meeting
Earlier in the day, Marko spoke about the meeting in an Austrian medium. "The meeting today (Thursday, ed.) is mainly about Max going through the next steps together with the technicians. His wishes and criticism will be listened to seriously," he stated to OE24.
For Verstappen, the approach of the interview is clear: He wants his team to make serious steps forward as soon as possible. The Dutchman is extremely annoyed that his Red Bull is not good enough to compete with McLaren, along with Mercedes and Ferrari at times. The continued development of the car is essential for Verstappen, both for this year and for his future with the team.
