Lewis Hamilton sees himself in Charles Leclerc
Lewis Hamilton has had a few moments with Charles Leclerc this season. Most notably, his wise words for the young 21-year-old after victory escaped Leclerc in Bahrain.
The five-time world champion sees similarities between Leclerc now and when the Brit was just starting out in Formula 1. Hamilton arrived at McLaren alongside the double world champion Fernando Alonso. Leclerc has been the victim of some team orders this season, and Hamilton can relate.
“I understand how Charles feels because in his heart he’s the best, attempting to be the best, and it’s almost like having your light dimmed,” said Hamilton in an interview with motorsport.
“As a racer, as a fierce competitor, you kind of rebel. They say to do one thing, but they are fighting you, so it pushes you the other way. I have experienced that.”
