Dutch Grand Prix set to replace Spanish Grand Prix

According to sources at Motorsport.com, the Dutch Grand Prix at the circuit of Zandvoort will replace the Spanish Grand Prix on the Formula 1 calendar from 2020 onwards, with Zandvoort reportedly agreeing to a five-year deal.
Motorsport.com have reported that last weekend a contract was agreed between the F1 organisation and the Zandvoort promoter, but is yet to be signed, as final details are still in discussion.
The Spainish Grand Prix is set to not longer be a part of the F1 calander after 2020 meaning that a race at Zandvoort could feature in the early May slot.
Last year the late Charlie Whiting visited the track and liked what he saw.
“I think there’s great potential there in Zandvoort,” he explained in October to Motorsport.com. “A few things need to be changed there, and there’s a great willingness to change.
“But I think it’s rather too early to be talking about that. They’re coming back to us with some proposals, and we’ll see purely from a circuit point of view – nothing to do with the commercial elements of it – but from a circuit safety point of view, I think it could be done.
“There would be a nice long straight good enough to use DRS well, and you’d maintain the historic elements of the circuit as well. I think it would be a very nice circuit."
Zandvoort has held Formula 1 races before and it is looking likely that the Dutch circuit will feature again in the future.
