Haas expect themselves to perform in Canada with more tyre knowledge
Haas has struggled to find the perfect mix to look after the tyres in the 2019 Formula 1 season, but things are improving. Monaco wasn't the best of weekends for the American team, but Guenther Steiner feels like a good result might come in Canada.
It all started on Thursday when Haas needed the black flags to bring both Kevin Magnussen and Romain Grosjean into the garage because of a technical failure. In the race, Magnussen wasn't on the best of strategies, but Grosjean dug deep for a single point.
Boss Steiner is looking forward to next weeks Canadian Grand Prix after learning more about the soft tyres.
"We have a little more hope for the next Grand Prix than was the case in recent weeks. We worked hard to understand the tyres and that seemed to work better in Monaco. With the soft tyres also in Canada, then it must give us an advantage," Steiner told Speedweek.
"But we will not see it until Friday, because we cannot make any predictions before. The only proof you will find for your ideas is really only when you leave the job. The temperature and slope of the course are also different than in Monaco so it won't be easy."
Haas improved as the season progressed last year and eventually pushed Renault for fourth place. They didn't quite make it, and it already looks in danger after the strong performances from McLaren.
