LIVE | Formula 1 FP3 2019 Canadian GP - Who will top the final practice session?
Ferrari ended Friday on top ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix. Will the Scuderia's form last though and can Lewis Hamilton bounce back after his uncharacteristic mistake in FP2 having hit the wall and lost valuable track time? Find out right here, we have you covered for FP3!
Friday round-up
It was a surprising result as Friday came to a close in Montreal with Ferrari securing a one-two in second practice ahead of both Mercedes drivers. Lewis Hamilton lost vital time in the second session after an oversteer moment coming out of the second chicane saw his W10 slam into the wall hard, putting the championship leader on the sidelines for the remainder of the session.
Teammate Valtteri Bottas was the sole data-gatherer for the team and was one of several drivers who produced surprisingly slow times on the medium compound tyres, the C4 compound the predicted race tyre of many was not holding up in the race simulations as some had hoped. While Ferrari topped the times, Mercedes' race pace looks comfortably fastest as their new power unit update appears to be working perfectly.
Red Bull will be looking for a clean FP3 especially, their Friday running was unspectacular, to say the least. A miscommunication between the team and Max Verstappen saw his fast lap ruined by teammate Pierre Gasly, the Frenchman cruising through the final chicane and forcing the Dutchman to back off of his lap.
Elsewhere, the midfield battle looks tight between Haas and McLaren, with Kevin Magnussen and Carlos Sainz setting competitive lap times for their respective teams. Whether the Spaniard can keep up the promising pace that had him in fourth by the end of Friday remains to be seen but McLaren may well have the edge on Haas.
