Max Verstappen OUT of qualifying in Q2 in Canada!
- Nicolás Quarles van Ufford
Red Bull Racing star Max Verstappen has been eliminated of qualifying in Q2 in Canada, as the Dutchman's hot lap to improve on his time was interrupted by a massive Kevin Magnussen crash that caused a red flag.
Verstappen did his first run on the yellow medium tyre during Q2, taking the risk of sacrificing pace in order to start on the mediums rather than the softs. It proved the wrong decision as the 21-year-old only mustered the 11th best time, which wasn't enough to go through to Q3.
Very late into the session, Red Bull sent Verstappen back out on the red soft tyres to improve on his time. While on his hot lap, however, Magnussen put his Haas into the Wall of Champions and had a massive crash, causing a red flag. Verstappen couldn't improve on his time, and will start far back on the grid, which means teammate Pierre Gasly has finally beaten the Dutchman on a Saturday.
Verstappen will start from P11 tomorrow for the Canadian Grand Prix as it stands, but a grid penalty could be inbound for Magnussen.
