Ricciardo suggests Renault don't understand their car fully
It looked like Renault had made a positive step forward during the French Grand Prix, but that may well be cancelled out after Daniel Ricciardo's P12 in qualifying on Saturday. The Australian believes the Renault car might have a "fundamental problem".
“I think we never really looked like a Q3 car from the start. Looking at it I feel like there’s something maybe more kind of fundamental with the car that we haven’t quite got on top of yet because here we changed a lot and kind of always end up with the same outcome," Ricciardo told RaceFans.
“Obviously for the team, there’s still certainly some things we need to understand. We had made progress for sure: Canada and Monaco and these places we showed that. But obviously we’re still able to be back where we don’t want to be and we need to understand. We’re still not perfect. So still some work to do."
Renault moved within two points of rivals McLaren, but that reopened to eight after France. With Lando Norris starting from P5, the Renault drivers might have some work to do to maintain or cut the gap again.
