Leclerc: "It would be fantastic" to fight Verstappen for Formula 1 title
The Austrian Grand Prix might have given us a glimpse of the future in Formula 1. Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc were both fighting for the race win and had the well documented coming together. Leclerc confirms he'd love to have a world championship battle with the Dutchman in the future.
The two drivers, both 21, have worked their way up to Formula 1 in unison. Last weekend, Verstappen stopped Leclerc from winning his first F1 race despite being under investigation for pushing the man from Monaco off the track. The Ferrari driver told Sport Bild that he'd love these battles to continue and develop into title fights.
“It would be great fun, we have been competing in karting for a long time. To fight each other for the title in the coming years would be fantastic. The new generation is coming and I have raced against them for quite some time," says Leclerc.
As Martin Brundle pointed out earlier in the week, the future of Formula 1 is looking strong. Not only did Leclerc and Verstappen produce the youngest 1-2 in history, but Lando Norris was also the 'best of the rest'.
