Ricciardo on McLaren form: "I think it's going to push us to a better level"
Daniel Ricciardo has admitted that the standard McLaren are setting at the minute is the aim for Renault to reach and is hoping that the Woking outfit's form will spur him and Renault on to the next level.
Daniel Ricciardo and Nico Hulkenberg are tenth and 11th respectively in the Drivers' Championship helping Renault to fifth place in the Constructors' standing as the British Grand Prix approaches. Despite being best of the rest last season, Renault has been outperformed by McLaren this season, whom they supply an engine for with McLaren's superior downforce apparent in recent races.
With Renault 20 points back on McLaren, Ricciardo is hoping the form of their rivals can help them reach a new level in the battle for best of the rest.
"I mean, looking at the McLarens, they're certainly the benchmark now and they've really come on, and they're the ones with that kind of package that we're looking for," Ricciardo said as quoted by Motorsport.com.
"They're very fast at the moment.
"I think it's going to force us to get a bit more out of ourselves.
"Obviously I'm not happy being beaten, but I think it's going to push us to a better level, so that's our target now and we need to find a way to catch them."
