Carlos Sainz explains McLaren's recent increase in performance
Carlos Sainz is having a successful season with McLaren so far this season and has revealed that their most recent upgrade is what has allowed them to top the battle of the midfield. The Spanish racer says that the upgrade allows the car to carry more speed through high-speed corners but thinks that the car needs to improve in low-speed corners if they are to bridge the gap to Red Bull.
"The biggest effect the package has had is on high-speed corners," said Sainz to Autosport. "So in France and in Austria, our was car performing very well on high-speed.
"That's probably why in Monaco and Canada we didn't see any big benefits, or we were just not as good as we were in the last two races.
"Now, we have a very nice rear end in high-speed and that is allowing us to be really fast."
The British Grand Prix is the teams home race and they will hope for another strong performance next weekend.
"We are going to Silverstone and we will try to put a good Friday, good Saturday and good Sunday together," said Sainz. "We are still working to make the car better on low-speed [corners].
"We were not that bad [in Austria] in low-speed but we have work to do if we want to get closer to the top guys, which is our main target."
McLaren are comfortably 4th in the Constructors Championship and will hope to get a podium finish before too long.
