Charles Leclerc: "I've never been arrogant"
Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen are the two drivers who will lead Formula 1's next generation of drivers. The man from Monaco is in his second Formula 1 season at the age of just 21, while Verstappen is in his fifth! Surprisingly, Leclerc wasn't thinking about an F1 career until late!
"I never told myself that I actually could arrive there [F1], I just told myself to keep working and keep focusing on the present to try to improve what I could do now and then I would probably have the opportunity to get there," Leclerc explained to the BBC.
Growing up, Leclerc spent plenty of time with Jules Bianchi and his father. Those two people were key for Leclerc's mentality and performance on the race track. He recalls how they both kept him grounded during his early days.
"I think they were saying a lot more: 'Keep your feet on the ground and keep working.' So, yeah, in the end, I think I took the other side and kept working and not thinking too much about Formula 1," he added.
"I am pretty sure it comes from them. I don't think I've ever been arrogant or anything like that, so it's also a bit natural. I honestly believe it is the way forward. But the fact they kept telling it to me, I think it has helped me."
