Bottas on contract extension: "That one race is not going to make a difference"
The Mercedes team are keeping their powder dry when it comes to Valtteri Bottas' contract extension for the 2020 Formula 1 season. It's all still up in the air. Bottas crashed during last weekends German Grand Prix, and that will not increase his chances of a contract.
But the Finnish driver himself doesn't think it'll damage his chances either.
"I don't believe that one mistake or one race will change the situation. That is how I am feeling towards this race. I shouldn't think about it at all. I have to perform at my best and focus on that," Bottas told Sky Sports.
“I know I didn't do well last week, so I'm trying to do that this weekend. That is of course up to the team to make a decision. We will see how that ends. Don't stress, just give gas."
Bottas was unable to complete more than two laps during the opening session of the Hungarian Grand Prix weekend. The Mercedes team spotted some misfiring in his engine which forced the mechanics to swap power units.
